Soto Blue
Inspired by Homenaje al humano by Venezuelan master Jesús Rafael Soto, Soto Blue explores color, rhythm, shadow, and optical vibration through the language of REPOP ART.
Nine reclaimed Formica samples move through a chromatic progression—from deep blue to pale blue—suggesting renewal, transformation, and the quiet emergence of light. Each square floats one inch above a richly textured carpet sample, allowing shadows to become part of the composition. The contrast between the cool blues and the warm, rust-colored background creates a vibrant energy that shifts with the light and the viewer’s perspective.
Laser-engraved into one of the squares, the Queen lyric “Another one bites the dust” introduces a playful reflection on endings and new beginnings: something disappears, something else is reborn. The work is finished with a frame made from reclaimed wooden Venetian blinds, giving another forgotten architectural material a new purpose.
Soto Blue is part of a series inspired by Soto’s investigations of movement and perception, where color is never entirely still and everything transforms.
